Kristina came into Life Choices with her boyfriend, scared and overwhelmed. They had done a home pregnancy test that was positive and were uncertain of what to do. We performed a second test that also was positive (no surprise to anyone). It was now official, she was pregnant, and her boyfriend was less than excited. For him abortion was a strong consideration, but he would also be open to adoption. We talked through the options and discussed how this would affect them, mentally, physically and spiritually. Kristina had been raised in the church and had a personal relationship with Jesus. She knew her previous choices were not the best and the consequences were now catching up with her. As we visited, Kristina shared her fears and concerns. How would she finish college, continue to work and take care of a baby?
Where was God with all of this? She had so much going for her and felt bad that she had "messed it up". As we talked, I reminded her that God was all about second chances and that maybe this was an opportunity, not a dead end. When the meeting was over I asked if we could pray for the situation. Kristina wept as we prayed for her decision and her future. I thanked her boyfriend for coming and supporting "her" decision. One month later, on Good Friday I got a call on my cell asking if Kristina and her mom could come by the Center. We met late that afternoon and she told me she had decided to have the baby on her own. Her boyfriend was not supporting her choice and she was now relying on family. We cried and laughed that afternoon as we talked about her next steps. We would visit several more times during her pregnancy. This week her Christmas card came in the mail. What a wonderful gift to the Center. For everyone who supported us this past year in prayer, thought, time or resources, Kristina and all the other girls we serve say thank you!!! Words seem less than adequate to express how much your generosity means to all of us.
